Oops, I did it again

Before I was so unceremoniously made redundant I did a bit of shopping. I know, I know, I am not meant to be buying books. I just can't stop myself. It should be a recognised addiction. So, back when I thought I had an income and thought I'd be paid at the end of the month, I took a sneaky lunchbreak trip into the Oxfam bookshop (I mean really I'm just supporting a cause so it's not like I'm just buying books willy nilly. Even though I am just buying books willy nilly. Oh, shut up you). Anyway, here are my purchases:

The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey
84 Charing Cross Road by Helene Hamff
Property by Valerie Martin
Birds Without Wings by Louis de Bernieres

Exciting stuff. And today I picked up my reserved copy of Dear Scott, Dearest Zelda from the library which I am practically about to devour in my excitement to read it. Seeing as I have joined the delightful land of the unemployed I am hoping that not having money will make it much easier for me to resist the buying of books. I'm sure I'll find a way around it but for the moment I'm being optimistic. I will just use the library. Oh gosh, I hope joining the library wasn't some sort of omen. Now I'm hysterical.

I'm off for some alone time with Scott and Zelda.

    1. I must say all of these books I have heard really good things about and I'm excited to read them all. The guy who served me in the shop waxed lyrical about 84 Charing Cross Road and I love a good book about books.

  2. The Snow Child was one of my favourite books of last year (and the perfect winter read!) and 84 Charing Cross Road is one of my favourite books EVER. I definitely recommend that one for your all your shitty-time cheering-up needs. And I totally have a problem with charity shop buying. I'm not meant to be buying books either, but once I'm through the door it's hard to say no. I think it's the "If I don't buy it now, I might not see it here again" thing - it practically FORCES you to buy stuff! Sending you imaginary virtual hot chocolate and kittens and flowers and all sorts of other happy things, xx

    1. Since the odd snow flurry has been starting up down south for the last couple of days I think I may just have to read The Snow Child now. It's like fate, surely. I totally agree about charity shops. I always think the people in Oxfam see me coming in and smile, knowing they've got me. I don't think I've ever left empty handed. Thank you for all the happy things, you're lovely xx
